Obscure is a research project that looks into children’s development through digital technology. The project specifically questions the social phenomenon where parents babysit their children with smartphones. In contrary with the designer’s growing up experiences which was always being in nature and observing nature, the extensive use of smart toys has shown damages to children’s mental and cognitive development since early childhood. To change this phenomenon, the designer has experimented with a series of analog interactive objects based on the sense of sight for children to interact with. The objects aim to reconnect children back to nature through creating interactive objects.
